Members-at-large, PCN Board of Directors

If you want to stop cancer before it starts, here’s your opportunity to contribute!

Our Vision: A world where all preventable contributors to cancer are eliminated.

Our Mission: To build a Canada-wide movement to eliminate preventable contributors to cancer through research, awareness, education and advocacy.

Prevent Cancer Now has openings for volunteers on its working Board of Directors. Board members devote 5-10 hours per month, to advance cancer prevention, governance and administration.

Secretary and Treasurer positions are coming open.

Occupational health and workers need a stronger voice.

Science and medicine are foundational in our work.

Legal and policy expertise can help to translate scientific imperatives into law, policy and practice.

Specific topics, such as pesticides and other chemicals, organic agriculture, wireless radiation and innovative thinking for least-toxic approaches would all benefit from a Board champion.

Campaigners advance science-based, least-toxic solutions.

Everyone, especially youth! with energy to organize, communicate, take action and fundraise, and who want to work with and learn from experts in science and policy.

About our work

Experience and impact. Through our 15 years, PCN has gained expertise, experience and a strong voice, with solid science-based advocacy against contributors to cancer. We do research, share knowledge, and advocate to improve laws and practices, to make least-toxic the norm.

Profile. We have published in national media and scientific literature, and share guidance for least- toxic living. We present to decision-makers, comment to regulators and speak to communities, to stop carcinogens in your air, water and food, and everyday products; at home, work and play.

Broad perspectives. Cancer prevention touches many topics, even climate change. Right now we are focusing on the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) and Bill S-5 to amend CEPA, to put into action “The Right to a Healthy Environment” protecting vulnerable populations, modernizing science, and to include radiofrequency radiation. We supported Edmonton experts and advocates in getting Alberta’s first “cosmetic” pesticide bylaw, and sit on Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency Transformation Steering Committee.

Using the law. When we know a substance is harmful, exposures should be stopped. We are in court, because three years is too long to continue using old, toxic, “discontinued” pesticides.

We are volunteers with a passion to prevent cancer.
If that is your passion too, we need your help!
