Camille’s Yummy Summer Recipe: The Watermelon Slushy

By Camille Labchuk

I don’t know about you, but I used to L-O-V-E slushies when I was a kid. Yes, the unnaturally-coloured and artificially-flavoured sugary slushies sold at corner stores in the summertime. In fact, my love continued well beyond my childhood – but those days are thankfully over (I can’t believe I drank that stuff). As I don’t consume chemically-concocted food and beverages anymore, I seldom crave cold, sweet slushie drinks (for many years now). But the hot Toronto weather these past few years has had me finding new ways to cool down, and then I remembered…

I hope you enjoy my yummy Watermelon Slushy creation! It’s a healthy, raw, unprocessed version of those slushies I drank as a kid. I experimented with many flavour combinations but this is my favorite! It’s super easy to make so try it next time you’re hot. I bet your friends and family will love it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups frozen watermelon, cubed
  • 2 cups fresh watermelon
  • 1 cup of almond milk

Note: If you’re planning to undertake physical activity later on you can add a scoop of protein powder (I use the “Sun Warrior” brand for its high quality).

Instructions: Simply blend everything until smooth. If the weather’s really hot you can add 3-4 ice cubes before blending. Sip it down, cool off and enjoy!
